What You Can Do For Your Country Act
This bill revises the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, including by
- allowing borrowers with loans under the Federal Family Education Loan program to be eligible for the PSLF program,
- allowing borrowers to receive loan forgiveness on half of their total loans after satisfying 60 qualifying payment obligations,
- revising provisions related to loan consolidation,
- revising the types of payments that count toward qualifying payment obligations,
- defining full-time employment as 30 hours per week,
- requiring the Department of Education (ED) to provide certain notices to borrowers,
- revising the process for certification of employment,
- requiring ED to establish a database of qualifying employers,
- providing a process for borrowers to satisfy past monthly payment obligations,
- requiring lenders to provide to ED necessary borrower repayment history information, and
- requiring ED to establish a dispute resolution process.
