Law Enforcement Resources and Community Safety Act of 2018
This bill establishes a new obstruction of justice criminal offense for conduct related to tampering with or retaliating against a witness in state or local proceedings.
Additionally, it does the following:
- establishes competitive grants for state, local, and tribal witness protection programs;
- authorizes grants to support anti-gang task forces and to hire additional career law enforcement officers to combat organized crime, and
- allows an existing grant program to be used to purchase personal protective equipment and detection devices for first responders who encounter opioid overdoses.
