Amendment97th Congress
An amendment to express the sense of Congress that the Secretary of State should recommend that extended voluntary departure status be granted to aliens who are nationals of El Salvador and that it be granted to them until the situation in El Salvador has changed sufficiently to permit their safely residing in that country. The amendment is the same as offered earlier (HA 442) except it adds that the U.S. government's detention of nationals of El Salvador the deportation is "irreparably harming the foreign policy image of the United States".
