Amendment98th Congress
An amendment to require the Secretary, within 180 days, to issue regulations to insure safe rail passenger operations with special attention to improved inspection of track, improved weather information, and crashworthiness standards for rail passenger cars. Also a study of training standards for dispatchers is required. All sections of the mainline of the corridor between Boston and Washington must be equipped with automatic block signals and cab signaling by 12/31/85. This deadline may be waived in specified circumstances. Provisions are made for owners of equipment that may be dangerous for Amtrak to petition for financial assistance to correct these problems.
