An amendment to strike language in the bill that simply states that after 6 months after enactment of the act the Indian Health Service is to be removed as a bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration and placed in the Public Health Service. Instead it substitutes language that creates an Office of Indian Health Service within the Public Health Service which will report directly to the Assistant Secretary for Health. The amendment provides for the salary level of the Administrator for Indian Health and provides that all records of the INS be transferred to the new office. This is to be implemented within 180 days.
