Amendment98th Congress
An amendment that strikes the provisions reducing initial benefit levels beginning in the year 2000 and raising the payroll taxes beginning in the year 2015. The amendment would gradually raise the normal Social Security retirement age from 65 to 67, increase first to 66 by the year 2027. Early retirement would remain permitted at the age 62, but at lower benefit levels than permitted under present laws. The amendment does not change the eligibility age for medicare.
