- Amendment sought to eliminate all child care provisions contained in the bill, increase the Earned Income Tax Credit from 14% to 17%, and establish a supplemental tax credit for families with young children.
- Purpose
- An amendment to eliminate the child care provisions in the bill and replace them with an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit from 14% to 17%. The amendment would establish a new supplemental tax credit equal to 10% of earned income for families with one child under the age of six, 13% for families with two children, and 15% for families with three children. The amendment would reduce and eventually eliminate the dependent care tax credit for higher income families and retains none of the bill's provisions for expansion of the Head Start program, school based child care programs, or expansion of Social Services Block Grants.
