- Amendment Number
- 273
- Description
- Amendment sought to delete certain child care provisions contained in the bill and replace those with increases in funds for Social Service Block Grants and the Head Start program. It would have provided an Earned Income Tax Credit to families with young children.
- Purpose
- An amendment increasing funding for Social Service Block Grants and Head Start, by $138 million less than the bill. The amendment would retain most of the bill's increases in Earned Income Tax Credits, but would repeal provisions of existing law specifying that the EITC is not considered to be income for the purpose of determining eligibility for other poverty programs benefits. The amendment eliminates the provisions in the bill which authorizes funds for school-related programs and new grant programs for child care.
