- Amendment Number
- 877
- Description
- An amendment to retain the existing smoking policy at VA facilities by deleting the provisions of the bill that require the sale of tobacco products at VA facilities and require the VA to establish designated indoor smoking areas at VA hospitals.
- Purpose
- Amendment originally sought to delete provisions in the bill that approve the sale of tobacco products in the canteens at veterans' health facilities, and also require that indoor smoking lounges be provided at such facilities. It would have allowed the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to implement a policy to prohibit or restrict smoking in veterans' health facilities. \ As amended by the Wise amendment (A002), the above was replaced with language that authorizes the use of tobacco in such facilities and requires the VA to maintain suitable indoor smoking areas at their facilities.
