- An amendment to change the effective date of the bill from one year after enactment to two years after enactment, and to provide that the information merchant mariners are required to submit to obtain documentation shall be kept confidential.
- Purpose
- Amendment: (1) extends from 1 to 2 years the amount of time an undocumented worker will have to obtain their merchant mariner documents; (2) exempts such workers from paying Coast Guard documentation fees; and (3) extends Privacy Act protections to those obtaining merchant mariner documentation.
