An amendment to reduce funding for administrative overhead costs (excluding salaries and other personnel costs) of selected agencies in the bill by a total of approximately $48 million. The amendment would not affect programs with public safety, health, environmental protection, or education responsibilities. The areas selected to be affected by the amendment are as follows: Bureau of Land Management, $9.8 million; National Park Service, $14.8 million; U.S. Geological Survey, $4.6 million; Bureau of Mines, $2.7 million; Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, $808,000; Bureau of Indian Affairs, $13.1 million; DOE, $1.6 million; and National Gallery of Art, $694,000.
