Amendments in the nature of a substitute require that the Office of Personnel Management pay the proceeds from life insurance in accordance with certain domestic relations orders or court-approved property settlements; and allow courts to direct an employee to assign the policy to a specific individual identified in a domestic relations order or court-approved property settlement agreement.
