Purpose
An amendment to authorize $4.5 billion for the Defense and Veterans' Affairs Departments to conduct clinical trials to evaluate treatments for Gulf War Illnesses; to require the Defense and Veterans' Departments to develop a plan to provide health care to those suffering from symptoms of the illnesses, and to monitor the services provided; to require DOD to report to Congress on the effectiveness of medical research on the illnesses; and to require DOD to develop plans for a medical tracking system to be used during overseas military operations, for collecting information about the location of units serving in a theatre of operations, and for a special unit to monitor chemical and biological hazards.
