- Amendment sought to increase education and training program funding by $1.2 billion.
- Purpose
- An amendment to reprogram $1.24 billion in FY 1998 funding for education and training programs into FY 1997 funding for those programs. The amendment would increase current funding levels for Head Start by $70 million, Drug-free Schools by $25 million, Eisenhower Teacher Training by $233 million, Handicapped Education by $100 million, Pekins Loans by $93 million, Summer Youth Jobs by $25 million, and refund the Goals 2000 program with $250 million.
