- Amendment streamlines the certification process for eliminating National Weather Service offices.
- Purpose
- An amendment, printed as amendment No. 2 in the Congressional Record of May 7, 1996, to prohibit the Secretary of Commerce from closing or consolidating National Weather Service field offices without certification to the Congress that the proposed action will not degrade weather service for the affected area. The amendment would prohibit the Secretary from closing or relocating any NWS field office located at an airport without certification that the proposed action will note degrade service in a way that would degrade aircraft safety.
