Amendment sought to allow unpatented mining claims, mill sites, and tunnel sites within the boundaries of the proposed Mojave National Park that were located before enactment of this act to be subject to all U.S. mining laws except for the Mining in the Parks Act. \ As amended by the Miller (CA) substitute amendment (A020), the above was replaced with language that allows holders of specified mining claims to continue exploration activities for 2 years after enactment of the bill in order to attempt to prove up those claims; and establishes procedures for holders of valid mining claims to continue to mine under certain regulations.

- Purpose
- An amendment to exempt mining claims located within the boundaries of the Mojave National Park from the provisions of the Mining in the Parks Act. The effect of the amendment would be to preserve certain mining claims that would not be considered valid under the bill, thus allowing the claimholders to continue exploring for minerals and to mine in the national park. The amendment also would have the effect of exempting mining claims in the Mojave area from the more stringent environmental requirements that otherwise would apply once the area becomes a national park.
