- Purpose
- An amendment comprised of 3 amendments en bloc which serves as a substitute for the preceding Lewis amendments. Like the Lewis amendment, it provides for establishment of the advisory commissions for the parks in the bill, but specifies that each commission shall consist of 15 members. In addition to the membership requirements for the commissions specified in the Lewis amendments, the Vento substitute requires that the advisory commissions would also have to include members representing persons engaged in range management, and persons with expertise in relevant fields including geology, biology, ecology, law enforcement, and the protection and management of national park resources and values. In addition, the amendment also contains a 10 year "sunset" provision.
