- Amendment in the nature of a substitute sought to designate 2.3 million acres of land as wilderness; designate 62 wilderness areas on BLM lands; add 104,000 acres to the Death Valley National Monument; and add 4,800 acres to the Joshua Tree National Monument.
- Purpose
- An amendment in the nature of a substitute consisting of the text of H.R. 2379. The substitute would designate 62 wilderness areas on BLM lands and would add 104,000 acres to the Death Valley National Monument and 4,800 acres to the Joshua Tree National Monument. The amendment would not redesignate these areas or the Mojave area as national parks, would not designate any wilderness within these areas, nor establish federal reserved water rights in these areas. The amendment specifies that nothing in the the bill should be construed as to restricting, forbidding, or permitting interfere with the demilitarization activities in California, or flights of military aircraft over the wilderness areas.
