Description
Amendments en bloc: (1) clarify that the right-of-way between Fort Irwin and the Twenty-Nine Palms area can be used for utilities; and (2) change the wilderness designation to leave a number of areas immediately adjacent to Fort Irwin in wilderness study status.
Purpose
An amendment comprised of 4 amendments offered en bloc to reduce the size of the Kingston Range wilderness by about 40,000 acres so as to avoid prejudicing future decisions about expansion of the Fort Irwin National Training Center, and keep the lands removed from wilderness designation in their current status as a wilderness study area; to reduce by about 17,000 acres the amount of wilderness designated in the Death Valley National Park in order to leave a non-wilderness zone adjoining the boundary of the Fort Irwin facility; and to provide for a utility corridor across the Chuckwalla Mountains wilderness to connect Fort Irwin and the Twenty-Nine Palms Training Area.
