Purpose
An amendment which removes the bill's prohibition on obligating funds for continued procurement of the D-5 missile until after a report is submitted next year outlining the options for reaching the START mandated force levels. The amendment also deletes the bill's prohibition on equipping Trident I submarines with the D-5, and recommends that DOD conduct a study that compares the option of a D-5 backlift (retrofit) versus extending the life of the C-4 missile currently carried by Trident I submarines.
